Enhancing Electrocaloric Heat Pump Performance by Over 99% Efficient Power Converters and Offset Fields

This work analyzes how an over 99% efficient charging circuit and electrical offset fields enhance the coefficient of performance (COP) electrocaloric heat pumps, emerging technology with zero global warming potential. The COP is studied for Carnot-like cycles regarding material’s permittivity dissipation factor, system’s efficiency. Compared to Carnot limit, a relative material 50.4% calculated lead magnesium niobate (PMN) ceramic, enhanced 87.4% by field. avoids high loss at low fields, where non-linear permittivity-related dissipative highest. A 99.2% gallium nitride half-bridge switched-mode converter used as circuit. Including loss, system 11.9% significantly 28.6% 0.8% external exceeds (dissipation factor below 0.2%), reducing from COP. 80% state-of-the-art resonant circuits electrocalorics, this work’s approach reduced 20 times. contributes transfer materials also pump systems.
